Born in France in 1978, Nicolas Henry graduated from the Fine Arts in Paris. He was also trained in the film industry as a film director at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in Vancouver, Canada.
After a career as a lighting designer in the show (music, contemporary dance and theatre), he toured the world for three years as a director for Yann Arthus-Bertrand's "6 Billion Others" project. He was its artistic director at the grand palais in 2009. For 6 years, he continued his personal work, travelling the world to create a series of portraits of the ancestors of the whole world "The huts of our grandparents" (Editions Actes Sud), mixing plastic installations and portraits Photographic. His works mixing photographs and sculptures have been exhibited worldwide from New York to Japan, Nepal, Nigeria, Korea in
Argentina... Director Quentin Clausin's film "Comfortably Lost" (2011) is based on the history of this live theatre.

In 2016, he was awarded the Popcap'16 Prize for African Photography. His new book on communities around the world ,Imaginary Tales Around the World - World's in the making" is released in 2016 by Albin Michel Editions.
