In this richly illustrated book, Christophe Genin sees street art as a global cultural phenomenon, crossed by multiple or even contradictory currents.
He examines his genealogy, as well as his most hasty current evolutions.
It addresses its living conditions, between the resistance of political authorities to "vandalism", and the recognition of various bodies, such as the art market or the humanities.
It provides an overview of all the fields invested by street art, graphic design, cinema, performance, urban games, cultural representations, politics and tourism.
Professor at the Sorbonne, associate of philosophy and doctor of humanities and humanities, Christophe Genin works on emerging and popular cultures. He published Miss.Tic, Woman of Being (The News Impressions, 2008) and Kitsch at Heart (Vrin, 2010). A lover of street inscriptions, he has been interested in graffiti and street art since 1985.
