description

CARRE SUR SEINE presents you with a new opportunity to hear the voice of those whose creations amaze us, as well as to discover artistic works in an original way, to pierce the secrets of an artist's approach, to question the elements of a work. Privileged encounters made of confidences of artists, who give an account of their work, in turn, by telling you about their universe, their journey and their approach. Questions and debates close the presentation.

Two artists in the spotlight this Wednesday, November 18, 2020:

Aurelia Cerulei - plastic surgeon
Alejandro Erbetta - photographer

Aurelia Cerulei
"We live in a world where consumerism has become consumerism; where products, relationships and human life have a programmed obsolescence and where the rules and mechanisms that govern it seem to me to be "theories of the absurd".When these "theories" result in inequality, racism, violence, conflict, ecological disasters, suffering and force people to flee their homes without a possible destination, my desire is to change, to correct these "absurdities". I look at the world and I see a great web where the warp is the geographical space in which the weft of time runs and intertwines. I also see people scattered but with common ideas of peace, respect, tolerance and so many other honorable feelings for all human beings and the planet. I use embroidery, sewing, patching, weaving to connect and create new and enhanced connections, to rework these "theories of the absurd" in order to poetically and symbolically correct those situations that cause suffering, pain, separation of families, ecological disasters, among others. But also to metaphorically regroup these people around the same idea."
Alejandro Erbetta

"In my artistic practice, questions arise related to current phenomena, such as those of memory and the reconstruction of individual and collective histories, migration, and the imaginary, or the search for origins, from photography, always open to other arts. My recent personal photographic series, all, in their own way, attempt to reconstruct, from photographs, texts and documents, individual, family and/or collective histories. The main modalities of these works are spatiotemporal displacements, retrospective research, and the use of different sources (documents, archives) assembled through montage. In this specific modality of creation, made from dispersed fragments, the artist is faced with the impossibility of a true restitution. In this specific mode of creation, made from scattered fragments, the artist is faced with the impossibility of a true restitution. Through a work of interpretation of material and immaterial traces, through the prism of the imaginary, the artist tries to construct their work from the blanks and lacunae of memory. "Trying to read what has never been written," as Benjamin puts it. Would this interpretation by the imaginary then be a way to access other possible meanings, which liberates new meanings?"
