Camila Rodriguez Triana
Born in 1985 in Cali, Colombia
LAUREATE CARRÉ SUR SEINE 2021
Camila Rodriguez Triana makes visual and sound installations and feature-length documentaries and experimental films. Her artistic approach reveals the solitude and fragility of Man in the face of hardship, his quest for identity and his work of memory within society.
Cultural heritage and its reappropriation by today's society animates much of Camila's work, both in her subjects and in her technique: stories of fragility and recycled materials are linked, or rather, entangled, in a whole that has become solid.
Camila Rodriguez Triana is a visual artist and director. She graduated from the Faculty of Integrated Arts of the Universidad del Valle in 2008 (Colombia) and from the Studio National des Arts Contemporains du Fresnoy in Cinema and Contemporary Art in 2019.
LA CASA
- exhibition-event of the winners of the Prize Carré sur Seine, from February 3 to 24, 2023 -
Built with the pieces, she says, "of the failures at the origin of the birth of an idea", Camila Rodriguez Triana underlines that the path of dead-end research participates in the end to the successful projects. To be more explicit, she links the idea of the suitcase "to the creative process more than to the physical journey". It is indeed about journeys through study, learning and the enthusiasm to create. On a daily basis, Camila Rodriguez Triana transports herself in her inner developments without changing air.
The mediums she favors (video-performative, sound and photography) contribute to the installations that set the stage for her narratives around "reappropriation". To this key word are added: "lost heritage, roots, ancestors, identity". Her Colombian culture guides her to perceive the events that mobilize her creations. Teeming with natural elements and reminders of history (map, book, rope, capsules), the illuminated nights at the edge of secrecy cross the memory to reach the present, in order to understand and accept it.
