Rachel Marks

I am an American artist and performer who lives and works in Paris. My work explores diversity within the forest in the hope of promoting nature conservation and community strength. My projects take many forms: monumental installations, sculpture, drawing and performance with a strong emphasis on dance.

The book object is a central object in my work. My works reveal the history of a place, its natural environment, culture and community. I often invite the public to participate in the donation of books or to participate in the creation. This allows the work to be both a collective experience and a sculptural installation. The books return to their natural source, and tell the story of the diversity of nature and our societies. The books from various subjects and languages show the importance of living in harmony despite our differences, just like the various trees in the forest. Natural materials such as petals, leaves and butterfly wings are also objects that I use in my natural book sculptures and drawings. My performance work comes from my practice as a ballerina, I combine dance and installation to further explore our connection with nature.

Guénaëlle de Carbonnières

Vectors for questioning our relationship to the past and the conditions of appearance of images, archaeological sites oscillate between figuration and abstraction.
The accumulation of successive layers, close to an archaeological stratigraphy, underlines the latency that governs the birth of any image: the gestures of the drawing and the photographic processes revolve around notions of temporality, proposing different regimes of visibility that put in tension surface and depth, memory and oblivion.

The image becomes a territory of exploration of the intimate or collective memory: accidents, incisions, perfusions, burns, destruction are evoked or directly perforate the residues of the past, in an attempt to find the trace of it.

In my current work, global warming and ecological emergencies occupy my research: rising waters, spectacular fire deployments and other consequences of the anthropocene are materialized by different supports, tools and plastic gestures.

These current questionings are part of a continuing process that focuses on temporality and entropy, the phenomena of appearance and disappearance.
